Pasir Gudang is Johor's heavy-industry and port capital — an established "Industrial and Port City" built around Johor Port (Pelabuhan Johor, UN/LOCODE MYPGU), one of Malaysia's principal multipurpose seaports since 1977. The port is a fully integrated facility handling containers, dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk and project cargo, anchored by an extensive Free Zone and a liquid terminal that ranks among the world's largest palm-oil and edible-oil handlers alongside petroleum, petrochemicals and steel. That deep-water gateway has shaped the entire township: the Pasir Gudang Industrial Estate proper is dominated by oleochemicals, palm-oil refining and storage, petrochemicals, polymers and chemical intermediates, shipbuilding and marine, and steel — with multinational refining and oleochemical operators and extensive tank-farm storage clustered around the waterfront. Adjacent to the core estate, the separate Tanjung Langsat Industrial Complex and its dedicated liquid-bulk port extend capacity for petroleum, gas, petrochemical and chemical tenants. Pasir Gudang is also named as one of the nine flagship zones of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), designated for the manufacturing, energy and logistics sectors. Connectivity runs on the multi-lane Federal Route 17 Pasir Gudang Highway linking the estate and port back through the Eastern Dispersal Link to the JB CIQ and the Causeway crossing into Singapore. For operators that need genuine port-side land, bulk-liquid handling and a mature heavy-chemical supply chain, Pasir Gudang is the default address in southern Johor.
